Armed security jobs hold a special appeal. The benefits are reputed to be above average and there is esteem in filling a position that is intended to protect and to serve. Whether employed in the private sector or working in the public arena, there are considerations that are not common in other jobs.
The routine of an armed security guard is generally similar in scope to that of the unarmed guard. However, the added requirement of carrying a weapon means added responsibility. Regardless of the earnings potential, it’s important to factor in one’s usual level of alertness and general disposition. There’s no room for unprovoked anger or a short fuse because there is no room for error. One inappropriate, unprofessional response can have catastrophic consequences. All of the pros and cons from a personal perspective should be carefully weighed before applying for armed security jobs.
